Dr. Hang Zhao completed his doctoral and postdoctoral studies and research in the team of Academician C. C. Chan, the “Father of Asian Electric Vehicles”, from City University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong, and he obatined his bachelor and master degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, all in electrical engineering. Dr. Zhao is currently the director of the Institute of Integrative Service Robots and the undergraduate coordinator of the Robotics Engineering major at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). To date, Dr. Zhao has published more than 70 academic papers, including 50 SCI papers and 34 JCR Q1 papers, and was shortlisted as one of the top 2% scientists in the world by Stanford University in 2024. Dr. Zhao currently serves as the associate editor of IEEE Open Journal on Vehicular Technology and IEEE Open Journal of Power Electronics (SCI-indexed), a guest editor of Energies and Machines (SCI-indexed), a member of the review committee of IEEE Access (SCI-indexed), and a chapter chair of top international conferences IECON 2022, IECON 2023, ICEMS 2023, and ISIE 2023.
Currently, Dr. Zhao undertake teaching duties of three courses:
- ROAS 5500: Mechatronics Design;
- ROAS 6000E: Electric Machine Design for Robots and Autonomous Systems;
- UCMP 6010 - Module G: Cross-disciplinary Research Methods for Robotics.
